Travel to Preah Vihear

There is no easy way to do this trip if your point of departure is Siem Reap. Head east to Dom Dek and then make for Koh Ker where you can break your journey in one of the town's two guesthouses (see Accommodation). Take the road through the small town of Kulen to Choam Ksan District then continue to Preah Vihear. There are virtually no settlements between Kulen and Preah Vi hear so ensure you are carrying adequate water, food and gasoline. Road conditions are poor and there are minimal medical facilities in the region. The trip can be done by motorbike but cars, jeeps and quad bikes are better suited to the terrain.

From Thailand: there is a border crossing on the Thai side of the border making Preah Vihear accessible from the Thai province of Ubon Ratchantani. Leave your passport at the border post for the duration of your visit.
