Van Thanh Temple - Hoian Information

Van Thanh Temple, Huynh Thuc Khang Street (Group 1, Cam Pho Ward), is about 500m from the Hoi An coach station. It dedicated Confucius Tien Thanh Monk and winners of Confucian examinations of the old times.

The structure evokes the Chinese character "Quoc": It faces south-southwest and its foundation is 1.5m above the ground. The temple has a front hall, and then a large yard in the middle of the eastern and western houses leads to the main sanctuary. This sanctuary has three compartments and two lean-tos. It has a pan-tile roof and its floor is paved with Bat Trang bricks. The whole structure was set up by loci skilful carpenters and bricklayers. The structure of the rafters follows a Chinese style called "chong ruong gia thu". Van Thanh Temple is a quite typical religious work in Hoi An, which expresses the spirit of encouraging everybody to learn and has many historic and cultural meanings.
